The Sixth Annual Dan Fitzgerald Memorial Basketball Tournament (“The Fitz”) returns December 2-December 3, 2016 at Lewis & Clark High School in Spokane, WA. This year’s tourney features another great field of eight teams (4 boys and 4 girls) playing in a showcase format including perennial state powerhouses from Oregon, Washington and Colorado. The field of four boy’s teams includes North Medford H.S, (Medford, OR), Union H.S. (Camas, WA) University H.S. (Spokane, WA) and Lewis & Clark H.S. (Spokane, WA). The girl’s field will include Bothel H.S. (Bothel, WA), Regis Jesuit H.S. (Aurora, CO), University H.S. and Lewis and Clark HS (Spokane, WA). Each team will play one game on Friday night and one game on Saturday at Lewis & Clark High School.
This years tournament will again be kicked off with the Fitz Banquet on Thursday, December 1st hosted by the Quest Casino and Resort. Longtime Spokesman Review Sports Columnist and Zagmania author John Blanchette will be the featured Speaker.
The Fitz has given over $100,000 to the Spokane Boys & Girls Club, the GSL Needy Students Fund, the Hoopfest midnight basketball league, the Dan Fitzgerald Memorial Scholarship Endowment at Archbishop Mitty High School, to needy players for scholarships to play on traveling AAU basketball teams at national tournaments that put them in front of college recruiters, and to the high school athlete recipients of the “Against All Odds Award” given by the Spokane Sports Commission’s Spokane Youth Sports Awards.
